But first a word of Thanks and Acknowledgement…..

Before I dive into this week’s topic of the “Deep State” and all the ugly tentacles that is consists of, I just want to convey my thanks to all of you who take the time to read this and my future articles. It has been my experience that most, if not all, of my friends and acquaintances take a special interest in the events of the day and pay close attention to most of what is happening in these very troubled times. I grew up in a home where we were fed a daily diet of politics and current events. The State of the Union was required viewing as was a deep understanding of foreign policy and economics. My earliest memories were of the gas lines of the late 1970’s, the Iranian hostage crisis, (that lasted 444 days), The Son of Sam (44 caliber killer who terrorized New York City), double digit inflation, double digit unemployment and double digit prime interest rates. I remember my parents deeply afraid of where this nation was headed. That all changed when Ronald Reagan reentered the run for the presidency in 1979. He preached a tone of optimism and American exceptionalism.  He spoke of America as “A shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.” He also spoke of a Democratic party that he didn’t leave, rather it left him and millions like him. A party that was so hell bent of government control of all aspects of the lives of its citizens through taxation and regulation. Reagan made it his mission to erase this aspect of American life and replace it with a country that returned to the ideals of what made it great in the first place. A country of entrepreneurs and a country of dreamers. A country deep-routed in religious tradition and was that shining city on the hill that the people of the world learned to love and respect.   This man changed the course of America and in the process added millions of recruits to the “Reagan Revolution”. A revolution a kid from Seaford has learned to appreciate more and more with each passing year.

So in summary, I am someone who had an advantage over many, as I was taught from my parents, as well as through history, what this country has the potential to be and I hope to share my perspectives on things through the lens of what I learned over my many years. I have always been a political “junkie” going all the way back to my childhood. I religiously consumed data from the “Sunday shows” and from my oldest brother Matthew who went on to become the executive Editor of the National Review under William F. Buckley. I often heard my brother debate my father in our kitchen for hours at a time. (Both were conservatives but differed on specific topics) It often became intense but these two intellectual heavyweights gave the kid at the top of the stairs quite an education. My father was a New York City fireman who held Masters Degrees in Economics and in Labor Relations. (You might be tempted to ask why he was a fireman; and the reason was that he came from an immigrant culture where a union job was the ideal to strive for. With 8 children, having medical benefits and a pension was security). My father was the smartest man I ever met. I do not say that because he was my father rather I read his writings, heard him debate and watched him figure out the entire NYC Fire Dept. budget on a paper plate and side of the house phone. (A budget the mayor of NYC paid a consulting firm 1.2 million to complete my father did for free). I was blessed to absorb all this information and it taught me a life lesson and how to see events as they truly are. (I haven’t forgotten my mother or her influences (which were substantial and will be written about in much detail in future posts).

That is what inspired me to write this, coupled with my own life experiences (which I will write about in detail as this blog progresses). If you disagree with me that is fine. There is a comment section attached for each posting and I am certain rigorous debate will ensue. I simply ask that if you state an opinion please make it fact based and leave out the emotional arguments and name calling. We are all fellow citizens and the goal of all debate and discussion should be about finding the best solutions for this country we all call home.
